The City

Rishon Le Zion was founded in 1882 as an agricultural colony and along the years became a major city. Today, Rishon Le Zion is one of the largest and most important cities in Israel, and its population is characterized by its high socio-economic standing.

Rishon Le Zion Mayor Mr. Meir Nitzan, who has been serving in the position for 25 years, is known as the leading mayor in Israel who worked and still works assiduously for the development and success of the city.

In August 2006, the mayor submitted a work plan, the fruit of his vision he has had for the ensuing 30 years. This work plan will bring the city forward, and transform Rishon into a super modern city that leads all others in terms of services provided to its residents, recreational culture, education and employment.
